“Speaker Gingrich and Senator Santorum have over half a century’s worth of time in Washington between them. They can’t fix our country’s spending problem because they helped create it. While Newt Gingrich may have opened the door to the abuse of earmark spending, Rick Santorum walked right through it. He renounced his belief that deficits are bad and voted to raise the debt ceiling by trillions – all while supporting billions in pork-barrel spending in Pennsylvania and across the country. That is not a record that fiscal conservatives will embrace once they know the facts.” –Andrea Saul, Romney Campaign Spokesperson

Mitt Romney today announced the support of additional Idaho elected officials.

“It’s an honor to have the support of so many conservative Idaho leaders,” said Mitt Romney. “This level of support shows that my message of restoring fiscal sanity to Washington is resonating with voters across the country. These supporters will be crucial in helping me spread my message of creating jobs and cutting spending in the months to come.”

Mitt Romney today announced the support of Michigan Congressmen Fred Upton and Tim Walberg, as well as additional Michigan elected officials and leaders.

“It is an honor to have the support of Congressman Upton and Congressman Walberg, and so many fine leaders from Michigan,” said Mitt Romney. “President Obama’s policies have been especially hurtful for Michigan. Michigan is home for me and I will work my hardest with leaders like Congressmen Upton and Walberg to make sure Michigan can reclaim the pride the state felt when I was growing up.”

“Speaker Gingrich just doesn’t seem to get it. Our staggering national debt and recurring deficits are jeopardizing America’s fiscal future – yet he attacks critics of his moon base proposal for being ‘cheap’ and ‘stingy.’ Combined with his record as the ‘granddaddy of earmarks’ and his past criticism of fiscal conservatives, it’s not surprising that his campaign hasn’t left the launch pad.” –Amanda Henneberg, Romney Campaign Spokesperson

Mitt Romney made the following statement regarding the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision striking down Proposition 8 as unconstitutional:

“Today, unelected judges cast aside the will of the people of California who voted to protect traditional marriage. This decision does not end this fight, and I expect it to go to the Supreme Court. That prospect underscores the vital importance of this election and the movement to preserve our values. I believe marriage is between a man and a woman and, as president, I will protect traditional marriage and appoint judges who interpret the Constitution as it is written and not according to their own politics and prejudices.”

Mitt Romney today announced the support of Georgia State Representative David Casas.

“I’m happy to have David’s support,” said Mitt Romney. “David shares my vision of promoting conservative economic policies to create jobs and get our country back on track. I look forward to sharing this message with all Georgians in the months to come with his help.”

“As Newt Gingrich visits Ohio, he still has questions he needs to answer about his work for the lobbyists at Freddie Mac. Ohioans have suffered during the housing crisis, while Speaker Gingrich was using his influence and connections to promote Freddie Mac’s agenda in Washington. Speaker Gingrich likes to compare himself to the Wright Brothers, but it’s become increasingly clear that his vision for America isn’t taking flight with conservative primary voters.” –Ryan Williams, Romney Campaign Spokesman

Constitutional scholar and Republican National Committee member James Bopp, Jr. wrote an open letter expressing his support of Mitt Romney:

My Fellow Conservatives,

February 7, 2012

“It appears that Newt Gingrich’s career as a ‘non-lobbyist’ spread beyond his K Street office – including his former home state of Georgia. Reports indicate Speaker Gingrich may have even run afoul of Georgia’s lobbying disclosure requirements. The devil is in the details, and the details suggest that Newt was lobbying for a whole host of clients, despite his claims to the contrary.” –Andrea Saul, Romney Campaign Spokesperson
